SRS Advogados advises CP and the Portuguese Government on the privatisation of CP Carga

SRS has advised Comboios de Portugal (CP - the Portuguese State Railway) and the Portuguese Government on the privatisation of CP Carga. The sale agreement was signed with MSC Rail Portugal - Operadores Ferroviários on 21 September 2015 with a total consideration of Euros 53 million. The transaction is pending approval from the Portuguese Competition Authority.

Until the conclusion of the transaction, CP Carga will remain a subsidiary of CP - Comboios de Portugal, which deals with the rail transport of goods. MSC Rail Portugal - Operadores Ferroviários is a part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company group, one of the largest ship container owners in the world.

The SRS Advogados team was lead and coordinated by SRS partner José Luis Moreira da Silva, with SRS partner Paulo Bandeira leading negotiations on the sale agreement. The SRS team included more than 20 lawyers from various departments within SRS.

About the transaction the Portuguese Finance Minister said in a statement: "The Government welcomes the conclusion of a process that aims to provide CP Carga with the necessary conditions to develop through private investment as a way to create greater synergies and efficiencies".
