SRS Legal supported the 11th edition of Apps for Good, which took place on 16 September at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon.
Benedita Moniz Frutuoso, Marketing Officer at SRS Legal, presented the 2nd prize in the Primary Education category to the MOB.in team from Fernando Namora Secondary School in Amadora, which developed an application designed to solve the difficulty blind students have in moving around the school independently and safely. SRS Legal has supported this initiative by CDI Portugal since its inception and has been present at every edition.
Apps for Good is an educational technology programme that challenges students and teachers to develop applications for smartphones or tablets, showing them the potential of technology to transform the world and the communities in which they live. Using a project-based methodology, students have the opportunity to experience the product development cycle.
This model is based on an international programme founded by Iris Lapinski and based in London since 2010. At the invitation of the Directorate-General for Education, CDI Portugal and Apps for Good joined forces and launched the pilot in Portugal in January 2015.
The 11th edition of the Apps for Good competition brought together 28 teams from schools in mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira.
It was attended by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, the Secretary General for Digitalisation, Bernardo Correia, Luís Fernandes representing the Ministry of Education, and the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Education, David Sousa.
