Carla Neves Matias, Partner at SRS Legal, has written an opinion piece for Jornal Económico on recent legislative changes and the challenges they pose for legal practice.

The author analyses the impact of the new rules, warning of the risk that reforms – whilst seeking to address problems within the justice system – may end up shifting the costs associated with the slowness of the courts onto citizens and lawyers.

As she argues in the article, the challenge lies in making the justice system more accountable without making the practice of law more risky, whilst ensuring predictability, the right to a fair hearing and proportionality.
