The case involving the detained police officers and the coercive measures applied was analysed by legal experts. Pre-trial detention is the most severe coercive measure, although it may be replaced by house arrest under electronic monitoring. The statement of identity and residence is a less restrictive measure. The seriousness of the alleged crimes and the precautionary needs of the proceedings are taken into account when determining the applicable measures. The responsibility of the officers involved, their conduct and the supervision exercised by their superiors are all crucial factors. Rebuilding public trust in the PSP remains a significant challenge. Analysis by Paulo de Sá e Cunha.
