The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the Judicial Police’s use of 4.3 million euros of European funds for energy efficiency works. The investigation, which is not a criminal one, aims to verify the regularity of the procedures, including exemptions from the tendering process. The European Public Prosecutor’s Office may take over cases or request voluntary cooperation. If evidence of a crime is found, a criminal investigation may be launched.
